Anritsu introduces ShockLine™ ME7869A distributed modular 2-port vector network analyzers (VNAs), which can measure the full vector S-parameter over long distances - up to 100 meters. The three models, operating at frequencies up to 8 GHz, 20 GHz and 43.5GHz, respectively, provide unprecedented cost-effectiveness, flexibility and ease of use for a variety of existing and emerging commercial and military antenna design applications.

The ME7869A is configured with two 1-port MS46131A VNAs, each of which can be directly connected to the antenna under test (AUT). The cable length for each VNA module can be the same or different lengths, depending on the application. This eliminates the need for long RF coaxial cables, which create high losses as well as phase and amplitude instability. The unique design satisfies the need for accurate and reproducible antenna measurement over long distances, such as in anechoic chambers and antenna test sites.

Anritsu's PhaseLync™ synchronization technology allows two MS46131A VNAs to phase synchronize with each other over the entire distance of 100 meters. PhaseLync improves the dynamic range and stability of S-parameter measurements by eliminating the need for long cables required for conventional desktop VNAs.

Another key advantage of the distributed modular VNA solution is the MN25132A control module, which greatly simplifies installation. It performs the function of connecting cables and supplies power to two MS46131A VNAs. There is no need to connect separate power supplies to the two VNA heads. The management module also connects two virtual machines to a laptop configured with ShockLine software.

Multiple applications are supported

The ShockLine ME7869A provides performance, cost and simplicity benefits for any lossy insertion application requiring long cable runs at frequencies up to 43.5GHz, compared to alternative expensive desktop VNAs requiring excellent dynamic range. The ME7869A can be used in satellite communications, materials measurement, aerospace and defense industries, as well as in signal integrity systems.
